“A master of the mandolin”
- Songlines

Nic has taught mandolin and performed professionally for over fifteen years; his playing has been featured in a range of ensembles and recording projects, first and foremost as one third of the acclaimed Shackleton Trio, with whom he’s toured extensively across the UK and Europe. He has regularly collaborated with banjo extraordinaire Dan Walsh (Urban Folk Quartet, Dan Walsh Trio) and long time musical partner Adam Clark (Nobodaddy, The Corncutters).
In 2022 he released his first solo album North Cape, showcasing an array of his own tunes, and backed by the respective talents of Alex Patterson (fiddle), Christina Alden (guitar) and Calum McKemmie (bass). With the mandolin at its heart, North Cape showcases Nic’s penchant for crafting thought-provoking, self-penned tunes and arrangements, blending his varied influences into a collection of unique and compelling new compositions drawing influence from bluegrass, old time, Swedish and French/Breton traditional musics.
He teaches in person and online.
